CWDS Glossary

The CWDS Glossary includes a List of Acronyms and defined terms captured from various models, reports, and other artifacts pertaining to the Child Welfare System – California Automated Response and Engagement System (CWS-CARES) Project. The Glossary standardizes terms used across the various project disciplines; each term is defined with its meaning specific to the project domain.

Application Program Interface (API)

A software intermediary that makes it possible for Application programs to interact with each other and share data. An API is often an implementation of REST that exposes a specific software functionality while protecting the rest of the Application. 

Application(s)

Software developed to support a business need. It refers to all Custom Software* and Commercial Software* used to provide business functionality, not including operating systems or office automation software.

Approver(s)

An individual responsible for officially agreeing or consenting to CW Workers plan of action related to Child Welfare Services and court activity.

Approving County

In the context of Resource Family Approval (RFA), the county that completes the RFA process for a family.

Architecture

A formal description of a computer System* or Application’s design, components, and how the components fit and work together to fulfill a specific purpose. The Architecture may include required functional activity descriptions, the System* elements needed to perform the functions, and the expected System* element performance levels. The Architecture may also include information on the technologies, interfaces, and location of functions and is considered an evolving description of the approach to build the desired System or Application.

Archive

A collection of historical documents or records providing information about a case, place, institution, facility or group of people.

Artifacts

System development documents that contain important information regarding design, timelines, features, outcomes, priorities, requirements, and other governance subjects pertaining to an automated system.

Asexual

A person who does not experience sexual attraction.

As-Is

Defines the current state of the business process in an organization. Compared to the To-Be state to conduct gap analysis.
