CWDS Glossary
The CWDS Glossary includes a List of Acronyms and defined terms captured from various models, reports, and other artifacts pertaining to the Child Welfare System – California Automated Response and Engagement System (CWS-CARES) Project. The Glossary standardizes terms used across the various project disciplines; each term is defined with its meaning specific to the project domain.

All-County Letter
A notice including guidance or policy changes developed and distributed by a California health and human services agency to specific roles (e.g., welfare directors, administrative law judges) within every California county per a court order or change in state or federal policy, guidance or regulation.
Allegation
A report provided to law enforcement or a child welfare agency that describes Child Abuse.
In the context of CALS, information which asserts or indicates that a facility or home may not have met or may not be meeting the requirements of one or more of the written directives or any applicable laws and/or regulations.
Alleged Perpetrator
An individual named in a referral who is suspected to have caused or knowingly allowed the maltreatment of a child.
Amazon Web Services (AWS )
A subsidiary of Amazon providing on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, companies, and governments, on a metered pay-as-you-go basis.
Androgynous
A gender expression that has both masculine and feminine elements.
Android
Android is a smartphone operating system (OS) developed by Google.
Annual Progress and Services Report (APSR)
The ASPR provides an annual update on the progress made by states toward the goals and objectives in their Child and Family Services Plan and outlines the planned activities for the upcoming fiscal year.
Appeal
In the context of Certification Approval and Licensing Services the due process right and/or the formal request for a change to a licensing, certification, or approval decision.
Applicant
In the context of CALS, any individual, firm, partnership, association, corporation, county, city, public agency or other government entity that has submitted application materials for a community care facility license, group or foster home license, resource family home approval, administrator certificate, or special permit.
Application Architecture
A classification of applications and the set of rules that govern how the applications will interoperate, distribute functionality, and share information across an organization. It will normally be based on the business process data model and will provide a framework that defines the structure and design of the functional components of the business systems and their interrelationship with each other.
