CWDS Glossary

The CWDS Glossary includes a List of Acronyms and defined terms captured from various models, reports, and other artifacts pertaining to the Child Welfare System – California Automated Response and Engagement System (CWS-CARES) Project. The Glossary standardizes terms used across the various project disciplines; each term is defined with its meaning specific to the project domain.

Gay

A person who is emotionally, romantically or sexually attracted to people of the same gender.

Gender

Either the male or female division of a species, especially as differentiated by social and cultural roles and behaviors.

Gender expression

External appearance of one's gender, usually shown through behavior, clothing, haircut or voice, and which may or may not conform to socially defined behaviors and characteristics typically associated with being either masculine or feminine.

Gender identity

One's internal sense of being male, female, and a blend of both or neither - how individuals perceive themselves and what they call themselves. One's gender identity can be the same or different from their sex assigned at birth.

Gender Non-binary

A person whose gender identity is not exclusively male or female. Some people who are non-binary experience their gender as both male and female, and others experience their gender as neither male nor female. If someone tells you they are non-binary, it’s always important to ask what being non-binary means to them.

Gender Non-conforming

​A person who does not behave in a way that aligns to the traditional expectations of their gender (male or female), or whose gender expression does not fit neatly into a category.

General Services Administration (GSA)

Federal entity that provides workplaces by constructing, managing, and preserving government buildings and by leasing and managing commercial real estate. GSA's acquisition solutions offer private sector professional services, equipment, supplies, and IT to government organizations and the military. GSA also promotes management best practices and efficient government operations through the development of governmentwide policies.

Genogram

A pictorial display of a person's family relationships and medical history. Also known as a McGoldrick-Gerson study, a Lapidus Schematic or a Family Diagram.

Geocode

The process of converting an address or location into geographic coordinates.

Geospatial

Relating to or denoting data that is associated with a particular location.
