CWDS Glossary

The CWDS Glossary includes a List of Acronyms and defined terms captured from various models, reports, and other artifacts pertaining to the Child Welfare System – California Automated Response and Engagement System (CWS-CARES) Project. The Glossary standardizes terms used across the various project disciplines; each term is defined with its meaning specific to the project domain.

Quality Assurance (QA)

Business Definition: All activities that center around implementing standards and procedures associated with ensuring that software meets a certain set of requirements before it’s released. The intent of Quality Assurance is to ensure the best outcome of a product. QA is generally process oriented and does not include the actual testing of products. Technical Definition: The process of auditing the quality requirements and the results from quality control measurements to ensure that appropriate quality standards and operational definitions are used. Quality assurance usually involves the performance of quality audits, a structured, independent process to determine if project activities comply with policies, processes, and procedures.

Quality Control (QC)

A set of activities for ensuring quality in products. The activities focus on identifying defects in the actual products produced.

Quality Gate (QG)

Business Definition: A milestone in an IT project that requires that predefined criteria be met before the project can proceed to the next phase. Technical Definition: A special milestone in a software project. QGs are located between environments and tests, where the entrance criteria for the next environment is based upon the exit criteria for the activities of the previous environment and is strongly dependent on the outcome of a previous phase. They are especially useful between phases in which enhanced measurements and disciplines must be overcome. To pass through a quality gate, all demands must be met for the next phase or environment to be successful.

Rap Back

The Next Generation Identification (NGI) Rap Back Service was developed in response to a need for notification of criminal activity that occurs after the initial fingerprint background check on persons in positions of trust.

Readiness Environment

An environment where specific Org implementation contacts can interact with CWS-CARES functionality to validate new business processes and readiness for the CWS-CARES release.

Ready to View (RtV) Date (RtV Date)

The date the development team has completed the development and testing of functionality and it has been deployed to the Sandbox.

Recovery Point Objective (RPO)

The maximum tolerable period in which data might be lost from an IT service due to a major incident

Recovery Time Objective (RTO)

The targeted duration of time and a service level within which a business process must be restored after a disaster to avoid unacceptable consequences associated with a break in business continuity

Referential Integrity

The relational database feature of utilizing valid values and relationships between tables to prevent users or applications from entering inconsistent data.

Referral to community agency

When the determination that a child abuse investigation is not warranted but other needs are identified, the referral may be sent to a community agency for follow-up.
