CWDS Glossary
The CWDS Glossary includes a List of Acronyms and defined terms captured from various models, reports, and other artifacts pertaining to the Child Welfare System – California Automated Response and Engagement System (CWS-CARES) Project. The Glossary standardizes terms used across the various project disciplines; each term is defined with its meaning specific to the project domain.

Planning Advance Planning document (PAPD)
An outline state systems staff can use to develop a PAPD. A PAPD is used by states to request funding for planning the development of a new child support enforcement system. The PAPD will include a commitment by the state to conduct a feasibility study and cost-benefit analysis.
Plan of Action and Mitigation (POAM)
A mitigation action is a specific action, project, activity, or process taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from hazards and their impacts. Implementing mitigation actions helps achieve the plan’s mission and goals. The actions to reduce vulnerability to threats and hazards form the core of the plan and are a key outcome of the planning process.
Plan of Correction (POC)
A plan developed by the licensee or authorized facility representative and jointly agreed to by the LPA as to how and when a deficiency(s) shall be corrected in order to bring the facility into compliance.
Platform
A set of tools and programming components that can be used to assemble applications. Example: Salesforce is a platform. CARES is an application.
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
A complete development and deployment environment in the cloud.
Playbook
An artifact that describes the CWDS process and best practices in the development of CARES.
Point of Contact (POC)
A person or department that is designated to provide information or assistance on a specific topic.
Point of Presence Router
A physical location that houses servers, routers, ATM switches, and digital/analog call aggregators. It may be either part of the facilities of a telecommunications provider that the Internet service provider (ISP) rents or a location separate from the telecommunications provider.
Portals
Where external partners/stakeholders can have role-based access to the application through the web.
Post Adoption Services (PAS)
Post adoption services include preventive, supportive, and therapeutic services:
-Preventive services - such as education and information assist families in understanding their child and family situation and in learning the most effective strategies for parenting.
-Supportive services - such as information and referral, support groups, respite care, and advocacy help to normalize their view of their situation, relieve ongoing stress, strengthen their coping abilities, and assist them in obtaining needed resources for their family.
-Therapeutic services - a minority of adoptive families need clinical interventions to address specific difficulties, including specialized assessment services, crisis intervention, a variety of therapeutic interventions, and, for some, residential treatment services that include the adoptive family in treatment efforts.
