CWDS Glossary

The CWDS Glossary includes a List of Acronyms and defined terms captured from various models, reports, and other artifacts pertaining to the Child Welfare System – California Automated Response and Engagement System (CWS-CARES) Project. The Glossary standardizes terms used across the various project disciplines; each term is defined with its meaning specific to the project domain.

Platform as a Service (PaaS)

A complete development and deployment environment in the cloud.

Playbook

An artifact that describes the CWDS process and best practices in the development of CARES.

Point of Contact (POC)

A person or department that is designated to provide information or assistance on a specific topic.

Point of Presence Router

A physical location that houses servers, routers, ATM switches, and digital/analog call aggregators. It may be either part of the facilities of a telecommunications provider that the Internet service provider (ISP) rents or a location separate from the telecommunications provider.

Portals

Where external partners/stakeholders can have role-based access to the application through the web.

Post Adoption Services (PAS)

Post adoption services include preventive, supportive, and therapeutic services: -Preventive services - such as education and information assist families in understanding their child and family situation and in learning the most effective strategies for parenting. -Supportive services - such as information and referral, support groups, respite care, and advocacy help to normalize their view of their situation, relieve ongoing stress, strengthen their coping abilities, and assist them in obtaining needed resources for their family. -Therapeutic services - a minority of adoptive families need clinical interventions to address specific difficulties, including specialized assessment services, crisis intervention, a variety of therapeutic interventions, and, for some, residential treatment services that include the adoptive family in treatment efforts.

Post-Adoption Services

Resources and services provided to an adoptive family and child(ren) following the finalization of the adoption processes, and may include information on adoption, parent support groups, post adoption training, crisis counseling, referral services, and a resource library.

PostgreSQL

An open source object-relational database system used to store data (e.g., tables and attributes) not currently supported by Legacy Systems.

Post Implementation Evaluation Report (PIER)

A post-implementation evaluation report (PIER) must be prepared by the Agency/state entity following the completion of each IT project, unless the Agency/state entity has entered into an interagency agreement with the Department of Finance’s Office of State Audits and Evaluations (OSAE) under SAM Section 4943.The PIER shall: 1. Measure the benefits and costs of a newly implemented IT application or system against the most recently approved project objectives; and 2. Document projected operations and maintenance costs over the life of the application or system. No project is considered complete until the PIER has been approved by the Department of Technology or by the Agency/state entity director, as appropriate. Approval of a PIER by the Department of Technology or the Agency/state entity director, as appropriate, terminates the project reporting requirements.

Post-Placement Supervision

Services provided by an adoption caseworker between the time that the prospective adoptive parents sign adoptive placement papers for a child(ren) and, the adoption is legally finalized. This provides an opportunity to help the family and child with any problems or issues that may evolve after placement. Refer to CDSS Adoption Manual for additional details.
