CWDS Glossary

The CWDS Glossary includes a List of Acronyms and defined terms captured from various models, reports, and other artifacts pertaining to the Child Welfare System – California Automated Response and Engagement System (CWS-CARES) Project. The Glossary standardizes terms used across the various project disciplines; each term is defined with its meaning specific to the project domain.

Change of Location

​When an existing licensed, certified, or approved facility or home changes location (i.e., address), the new facility or home is inspected to ensure that Title 22 regulations or Resource Family Approval written directives are met before a new or updated license, certification, or approval is issued.

Change Request (CR)

A proposal to alter a product, process, or system that can be used to address requirements of the respective product, process, or system.

Characteristic

A feature or quality belonging typically to a person, place, or thing and serving to identify it.

Chief Information Officer (CIO)

The company executive responsible for the management, implementation, and usability of information and computer technologies.

Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)

The executive responsible for an organization's information and data security.

Child Abduction Response Processor (CARP)

An application maintained by the California DOJ for the CACI (Child Abuse Central Index) check to verify if an applicant, suspect or any other subject has been involved in any child abuse incident(s). The subject’s information is checked against the CARP database and appropriate response is sent to the requesting agency.

Child Abuse Central Index (CACI)

A California DOJ-maintained statewide, multi-jurisdictional, centralized database registry of child abuse investigation reports concerning child abuse in California. Information collected includes names and descriptors of the suspects and victims, the agency that investigated the allegations, name or case number assigned to the case, type of abuse investigated, and Investigator findings.

Child Abuse Neglect or Exploitation (CANE)

An overarching term that represents the collective set of the three child maltreatment categories, the alleged occurrence of which triggers assessment and processing of a referral.  See Child Abuse.  See Neglect.  See Exploitation.  

Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths Assessment (CANS)

Provides a variety of actionable assessment items to support decision making, case planning and level of care.
